“To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.”
There is a group of men and women I’ve always admired and desired to be more like. Norman Geisler, a Christian systematic theologian, philosopher, and apologist, was one of them. I sat under his teaching and was always amazed and inspired. Josh McDowell, also an author, speaker, and apologist, belongs on this list. Maybe even more so, Bill Muir and Jay Kessler—both fit this group yet had an even more down-to-earth way of presenting and communicating. Steve Scoggins, Jeff Myers, and a few other pastors do this as well. Without being political, so did Charlie Kirk. All these men, because of deep study and faith, could answer almost any spiritual question with calmness, kindness, and with profound clarity and wisdom. I believe it was because of their commitment to study and preparation. They were also gifted with those moments Paul refers to in his writings, when the Spirit speaks for us—even when we have no answer ourselves. That’s an amazing gift God offers His children in unique circumstances. It’s not an excuse for laziness, because as I shared, each of these men studied diligently to be prepared to give an answer for the hope within them. Today, may we be prepared to share. #BeTheEdge
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 NIV
