“Thus you will walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.”
In my heart, this always sounded like a good idea. Maybe it was how I was raised. I’d call it kingdom-adjacent—not Christian at the time, but definitely with a Judeo-Christian awareness. That was actually a very dangerous place to be. Until I heard the gospel clearly explained at a youth conference, I was oblivious to the need for, and privilege of, a personal relationship with God through His Son. I could have stayed right there my whole life and ended up separated from my Creator for all eternity. Walking in the ways of the good is hard without the indwelling Holy Spirit. It’s hard with Him, so imagine how much harder without His ever-present power in our lives. Solomon is letting us know that with God’s wisdom in our journey—relationship with Him being the prerequisite—we cannot live a truly righteous life. Only the covering of His Son, accompanied by the gift of the constant companionship of His Spirit, can give us the ability to live righteously. For Christians, righteousness is being made right with God through Jesus and then living rightly with others as the outflow of that gift. Today, walk in your relationship with God, and He will keep you on His path. #BeTheEdge
“‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’” 1 Peter 2:24 NIV
