“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”

I saw a video today about a young girl who, on the first day of school, noticed a fellow student with a plexiglass barrier at her desk. She was immunosuppressed and going through a battle with cancer. Her parents didn’t want her in school, but she really wanted to be there, so they tried different ways to help protect her. Unfortunately, the other students were making fun of her. This young girl went home and asked her dad to create a plexiglass barrier for her desk so the bullied student would not be the only one with that protection. When asked why she did it, she simply said it seemed kind—and she hoped the other students would notice and stop their meanness toward the first girl. I don’t know how the story ended, but I greatly admired this young girl’s heart. I think Solomon would have as well. There are many people in society and throughout the world who are unable or unwilling to speak up for themselves. Solomon and Jesus both call us to stand up for them. In chapter 27, Solomon calls on us to be like iron sharpening iron—to help each other become better people. Jesus challenges us that when we help the hurting, we are helping Him. Today, stand for the voiceless and the bullied. #BeTheEdge
