“No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.”

Over the years, I have found myself in need of removing a tree stump from my yard. It has often been a daunting task. Older, well-established stumps typically have extensive root systems. Paying a removal service can cost hundreds of dollars—a huge amount for this poor preacher. Solomon compares being established in the righteousness of God to a powerfully rooted tree. Here in Alabama, we are prone to ice storms. As the ice accumulates on certain trees, those with shallow roots such as the beautiful willow that fell onto my porch a few years ago—are susceptible to toppling over. Jesus talks about surviving the harsh storms of life. His solution is to build our lives on God and His Word, being anchored in His righteousness. A life lived wickedly, apart from God, leaves a person vulnerable to being torn down by life. My willow tree was a beautiful tree with over a decade of growth. It was also expensive. As it was admired by many, I suspect no one considered how vulnerable it was to easy destruction. The wicked may look prosperous and secure, but without Jesus, it is only a façade. Today, find your depth of security in God alone. #BeTheEdge
