“The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.”

I’ve spent the last two days at my dad’s side as liver cancer finishes its work. At 92, he’s had what Solomon calls “length of life.” Over the years, I’ve learned much from him. I carry no debt—thanks to his example—long before Dave Ramsey ever showed up. One of his nicknames was “Cash and Carry Larry.” If he didn’t have the money, he didn’t buy it. He worked hard and diligently, following the example of his own father—a milkman and volunteer fireman—always with the highest integrity. Those lessons shaped me then and still do today. Like many in his generation, he showed little emotion, missed family moments for work, and kept faith a private matter. I would catch small hints of his belief in Jesus, but I had to watch closely for them. Now, he will be gone any moment—perhaps before this is even read. After prayer, conversation, and final plans, I believe he walked in the light he was given. One thing I’ve learned: reverence for God is powerful. Another: no matter how awkward it feels, talk to those closest to you about Jesus—before it’s too late. We don’t get people into heaven, but we can miss the privilege of introducing them to Him. Today, check in with your loved ones about eternity. #BeTheEdge
