“Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.”

I’ve referenced some of the silly arguments I’ve seen on social media. That’s just how some people entertain themselves. I look forward to the day when I no longer feel the need to use social media to communicate information about The Edge ministry or share the daily devotion from Proverbs. I don’t know exactly when or how that will happen, but it has become a universe I’m ready to vacate. In today’s verse, Solomon reminded me of a specific post I saw the other day. It was a purely secular crowd discussing a purely secular topic. I think it was about behavior at football games. Out of nowhere, a person who had apparently appointed themselves God’s social media manager jumped in and began rebuking and correcting those in the conversation. Some of what they shared was truth; however, the tone was very arrogant (read: holier-than-thou) and harsh. Pretty quickly, the other posters turned on them, and it blew up from there. It was kind of a “staring at a car wreck” moment—I could almost not look away. But I did. There was a deep sense of disappointment and sadness in my spirit. I felt damage being done to the Kingdom, and it was completely unnecessary. Something in this fellow saint led them to believe it would be effective and please their Savior if they jumped in where they were not invited and attacked. There was no social media in Solomon’s day; however, I have no doubt that in the broad truth of this verse, this person experienced its reality unnecessarily. Today, speak truth thoughtfully. #BeTheEdge
