“When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.”

One of the references I looked at to write today’s thought said, “Those who follow wisdom and the path of righteousness will experience a life free from significant obstacles and setbacks. Instead of stumbling or being hindered, their steps will be steady and their journey through life will be smoother and more purposeful” (AI resource). I started to disagree with this particular writer as I considered that faithfulness in our walk with Jesus does not guarantee an easy life — and it doesn’t. However, there is a very real truth in Scripture that walking faithfully with God removes many self-inflicted consequences that can certainly upend our journey. Sin comes with difficult repercussions that cause us to stumble. Solomon reminds us that when we walk faithfully, even through difficult times — maybe most especially through difficult times — we find the footing to move through life. As a matter of fact, life is going to be challenging in this fallen world. Knowing that our steps are securely in God’s hands offers a comfort and peace that goes beyond the logic of what we can imagine. The old poem about footprints in the sand is inspiring and true. I love the old preacher’s line that God turns stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Today, rest in His hands. #BeTheEdge
