“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,”

One of the key elements of becoming a follower of Christ is deciding to accept what God offers. In this verse, Solomon reminds us that God is the ultimate gentleman. He doesn’t force Himself on us. Satan, on the other hand, is an awful scoundrel who tries to force himself and his evil into every area of everyone’s life. In the book of Revelation, we get the picture of Jesus standing at the door of our lives, knocking and waiting to be invited in—waiting to be accepted. The most famous painting of Jesus knocking at a door is The Light of the World by William Holman Hunt. This allegorical painting depicts Jesus holding a lantern and knocking on a door that has no handle on the outside, symbolizing His invitation to the human soul. The door is overgrown with weeds and has rusty hinges, implying it has not been opened in a long time. The painting illustrates the biblical verse from Revelation 3:20. Life is a series of choices, and we live out the results for many years to come—if not the rest of our lives. Ultimately, we live out our eternity based on what we do with the choices we make regarding our faith and God’s gifts of knowledge and truth. The question we are reminded to ponder are these: Do we accept His great gift of salvation? Do we accept His words? The issue is that we either accept or reject His words—and more importantly, His Word made flesh, Jesus. Will we open the door to God’s gentle knocking? Today, accept Him. #BeTheEdge
