“Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!”
Before my wife and I were married, we began praying for our children. We also began praying for their future spouses and our future grandchildren. The awareness that prayers do not have an expiration date can be a great comfort to parents, grandparents, and loved ones. I used to be very saddened by the thought of how many young people I worked with in ministry had never had their names lifted before the throne of the Almighty. In this verse, Solomon speaks of a mother who prayed for and made vows about her son—a great reminder of the power and commitment of parents in prayer for their children. This verse makes us ponder: Who has ever been the answer to our prayers? And who have we been the answer to theirs? Peter Lord once commented that the reason so many prayers go unanswered is that God has a hard time finding a willing servant to answer them through. I’m not totally sold on the theology of that statement, but I certainly understand the sentiment. I have watched God answer many of my prayers through the obedience of His other followers. I’m so thankful for them. The ones answered for my children and grandchildren are way up on that list. Today, be the answer to someone’s prayer. #BeTheEdge
