“Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.”

The foolish person believes they are in control of situations and outcomes, to the point that when things go awry, they often try to wrestle them back under control through angry confrontation. As it becomes more apparent that they are losing control, their anger grows and can escalate into rage. This never produces the desired result or outcome—unless their desire is emotional carnage and a loss of respect from those they are dealing with. Remaining calm often takes more than our own abilities can offer. In those moments, we need something greater than ourselves. The power and reminders of the indwelling Spirit of God can offer a deep sense of calm in hectic and stressful situations. Wise living reveals itself when those around us are calmed and comforted by our presence during crisis or conflict. That is part of being the light God calls us to be. It means being connected to the Rock in the storm. It is what our world is in desperate need of. I recently read an article on how to remain calm during a heated exchange. The suggestions ranged from useful common sense to the absurd. But taking God’s wisdom and the powerful presence of His Spirit into those situations gives you the core resources to be God’s person in that moment. If someone is not going to die or go to hell because of the issue at hand, it is vital to remember that there is something more important in the Kingdom representative’s role than whatever the anger is about. That does not diminish the importance of doing relationships and business with excellence—it elevates it to the eternal. Today, be an instrument of God’s peace and calm. #BeTheEdge
