“Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them.”

Don’t listen to God or those He has placed in authority over your life—and see what happens. According to Solomon, you will begin to find that the people and voices you give control of your story to are not those who represent the interests of God. And therefore, they are not what we truly need or desire. He calls them the wicked—not a label we want to be associated with. It is pride, and often laziness, that allows this to happen. Sometimes it’s a longing to feel liked and wanted. Often, as we reflect later on the destruction we encounter, we realize these people and voices never cared for us to begin with. They were there to use us. It takes effort to resist the low bar set by people trying to gain influence in our story. At times, this resistance may mean we stand alone. We eat lunch alone. We pursue goals alone. We operate, for a moment, alone. More importantly, we walk through those moments with Jesus. We listen to His voice. We follow His instruction and reap the reward and blessing of the faithful servant. The wicked pull hard to have us with them. But the truth in our mind and the Spirit in our soul help us resist and stand firm. Today, do as the Lord leads.
