“The Lord works out everything to its proper end— even the wicked for a day of disaster.”
I had a birthday a week ago. One truth I believe is universal: we can more easily see how the decisions and events of our past have all conspired to place us exactly where we are today with a little age. Everything—from diet and exercise to whom we dated and, if applicable, married—works together to bring our lives to the precise moment we find ourselves in. For the believer, this is a powerful confirmation of God’s intricate and sobering design for both the universe and our individual lives. With this truth in a believer’s life, we should grow in our faith that God has already written a plan that includes everything that comes into our story. Don’t celebrate, Calvinists. Don’t panic, Arminians. It’s about God’s sovereignty. If your theology—no matter which direction you lean—does not include a sovereign God, then you don’t have the one true God at all. Edith Schaeffer wrote a book called Tapestry. As the title suggests, the main concept was that God is weaving a beautiful tapestry through our lives and throughout the world, a masterpiece He sees clearly as the Weaver. While we’re on earth, we only see a tangled mess of multicolored threads hanging down—seemingly chaotic and without beauty. Though it may not look like it from our side, everything in our lives happens at just the right moment. Today, rest in His sovereign control. #BeTheEdge
