“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.”
I have four granddaughters. Two of them plan to become veterinarians, and I suspect both will achieve that goal. Their love for critters of all kinds amazes me. My love of critters is more about enjoying them from a distance—in the “jail” (zoo), or limited to two or three specific dog breeds. You can never go wrong with a Lab! These girls have shown me beautiful examples of how tenderly God loves us, in contrast to what people with wicked hearts offer. Solomon expresses this contrast creatively in Scripture. The difference between the love and compassion of God’s people and the lack of them in the wicked is made clear in this verse: God’s people are not only kind and helpful to others, but they also respect all life as God’s creation. My youngest granddaughter makes it clear that she loves every living thing—even insects—though she doesn’t necessarily want to be around all of them. She sees their intrinsic value. (I still question mosquitoes!) The wicked can’t even fully appreciate the value of human life. This is evident in many of the social ills they attempt to normalize. This contrast comes down to awareness. God’s people pay attention—they are aware of the condition and needs of those around them. Just as Jesus saw the hunger and the need for healing in those He encountered, so should we. Today, be aware.
