“The name of the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot.”

I didn’t know the name Dick Eastland until yesterday. Thousands already did—and now, I’ll never forget it. Fifty-one years ago, he bought a camp for girls. He taught them many things about life and kindness. He encouraged them to make new friends, and above all, he taught them how deeply God loved them. Young girls attended his camp and learned these valuable lessons. When they grew up and had daughters of their own, they sent them to Dick and Tweety’s camp to learn the same truths. A couple of days ago, unexpectedly heavy rains caused a flood along the Guadalupe River. The Eastlands’ camp sat on its banks. Within minutes, the camp was overwhelmed by water. As the flood raged, Dick ran into the rushing waters to save his girls. He gave his life trying to rescue them. For those who ever went to Camp Mystic in Texas, Dick Eastland’s name will never be forgotten. He lived the ultimate example of his Savior, who 2,000 years ago rushed into the sinking ship of our planet—a world in desperate need of rescue. He, too, gave His life for others. As my grandkids go to camp, to youth meetings, and to school, I want Jesus-followers there—people who will teach them the truth, and if necessary, risk their lives to protect them. Jesus’ people understand that calling. Today, remember the name: Dick Eastland. #BeTheEdge
