“Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning; let’s enjoy ourselves with love!”

This is another verse about adultery. Solomon clearly shows deep concern about this issue in his counsel to young men. In our culture, it’s a struggle for people of all ages—from puberty to the deathbed. We live in a sex-saturated society. Over time, we’ve seen the culture not only allow but even endorse deviant and deeply perverted behavior as normal. In this verse, we see the word love used in a way that God never intended. Like much of what society calls “okay” today, this is a distortion of God’s perfect design. “In the Bible, ‘love’ has a richer meaning than the worldly, often fleeting, definition. Biblical love, particularly God’s love (agape), is a selfless, sacrificial, and enduring action rooted in God’s own nature. It’s not primarily a feeling, but a choice to act in the best interests of another, even at one’s own expense.” (AI resource) The world—and the woman in this verse—pursue gratification to the point of destruction. Sex slavery and sex trafficking are just a couple of the tragic results. Over the years, I’ve heard people say the Church is either sex-obsessed or too uptight. Perhaps that’s true at times. But today, it’s clear how much damage has been done to families and communities as leaders and influencers cheapen God’s plan in so many areas—this being a major one. Today, choose to walk in biblical love. #BeTheEdge
