“When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.” Proverbs 6:22
Rebecca Perkins once wrote an article titled 40 Words of Wisdom every Parent Needs to Give Their Child. It included advice like: don’t complain, you are not your job, and little stuff does matter. Some of it was solid wisdom—other parts, maybe not so much. This verse is a pretty comprehensive description of how knowing and obeying God’s truth has you covered. When Solomon encouraged young men to listen to what their parents had to say, he was building on the foundation laid by his father, David, and passing on the same instruction to his own children. He wasn’t just offering life tips—he was sharing eternal truths about the God they served. Sure, it may have included things like “make your bed” and “brush your teeth,” but at its core, it was always grounded in God’s plans for His followers. In Solomon’s writings, every word carries both eternal significance and practical value for all of us. Jesus ultimately boiled the best guidance—much more than just advice—down to two statements that serve as the starting point for everything: Love Jesus. Be kind. Imagine a world where we all started there. Today, let’s start there. #BeTheEdge
