“When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.”
This is certainly a politically loaded verse in today’s environment. Feel free to let the Spirit lead you into those deeper, darker questions if you’d like—but for today’s challenge I want to make it more instructive for individuals. In other words, how does this impact our personal walk, rather than how can we point fingers at others? Recently, a mom told me that during a conversation about life, her daughter said, “You do you, and I’ll do me.” In this case it was a way to escape the soul-searching journey a parent often tries to take with their children. A dad told me his son said, “You live your truth, Dad, and I’ll live mine.” That’s even more troubling. Both of those responses reflect a mindset that much of society holds today: that there are no moral absolutes or absolute truth. This belief makes everyone their own king, allowing them to write the rules of life moment by moment. There need be no consistency in their story from day to day. They can rewrite it in an instant to suit whatever is most convenient or desirable. As Solomon tells us about the kingdom, so too is the individual often rebellious. When you gather a crowd of people all writing their own truth, you end up with a rebellious community—and on and on it goes, until the world is operating not in rebellion to a king, but to The King. Today, submit to the King of Kings, and watch how life begins to operate with peace and purpose. #BeTheEdge
