“Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.”

I love the fullness and all the implications of the phrase “pleasantness of a friend.” There were times in the past when that might have sounded a bit boring, but now it sounds like exactly what I’d like to experience on a regular basis. Thankfully, I do. I have friends I simply enjoy sitting on the porch with, reminiscing. I also have friends I love getting together with to talk about life in the kingdom of God. All pleasant conversations. I’m convinced that not nearly enough people have this type of interaction—and many don’t know what they’re missing. I’m also sure that, with all the time Jesus spent with His twelve disciples, they had many of these kinds of conversations. When He spoke about the lilies of the field or the birds of the air, they were enjoying the magnificence of His Father’s creation. They reflected on the peace of nature at rest and the gift of their surroundings. In the fast-paced and intense lives many of us lead, it is a genuine blessing to reflect, chat, and calm the soul. Jesus once said: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. [Jeremiah 6:16]” (Matthew 11:28–29 AMP). I love everything about that. Today, find true rest with friends in Jesus. #BeTheEdge
