“Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.”

A lesson I learned years ago is that when you hear something bad about someone, just wait. Very often, it turns out to either not be true or not be as dramatic as it seemed when it was first shared. We actually need to ignore those types of reports altogether. Solomon makes this point clear by showing us that a curse or negative declaration about someone without legitimate cause is not only fruitless—it’s a destructive waste. The opposite, however, is a powerful gift that followers of Jesus bring to a world in desperate need of kindness and healing. We live with both options every day. I have certainly been guilty of spreading undeserved criticism, as well as words of encouragement. This is not a particularly deep truth, but it is one we need to be reminded of often. God has given us a powerful example of what speaking kind truth does to a person’s soul in Jesus. His words were transformative. Not only did He speak the universe into existence—Scripture is full of lives transformed by His words. Today, speak life. #BeTheEdge

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.” Jesus
