“Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.”

This one seems especially appropriate these days. We are told in the Bible to take note of wars and rumors of wars. It is said that these things will precede the return of Jesus—perhaps His imminent return. I’m not much of an “end times” guy, but I am a firm believer in Solomon’s counsel about the value of wise people in our battles. In Christianity and Culture, C.S. Lewis wrote, “There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan.” This includes the square inches occupied by your body. You live at war and under attack every moment. But it doesn’t have to be draining—because you don’t do the fighting. God fights for you. If you walk faithfully in Him, you walk surrounded by His power and presence. And the way we learn to walk in Him is often through the wise counsel of others. That is Solomon’s point. In a physical battle, only a fool would enter unprepared and without a well-planned strategy. The best strategies come from including a group of wise counselors. The same is true in the spiritual realm. The key difference is that, not only does God fight for us spiritually, but we have already been given the big-picture outcome. Read His book—His battle instructions—to the end, and you’ll see the victory. Today, seek wise counselors to walk with you through your story. #BeTheEdge
