“Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
We recently celebrated Father’s Day. I loved all the stories and pictures of dads and their kids. I was actually moved to tears by a few of the stories. It may be the power of family—or low T, or both—but as I age, the need for family grows in me, and the importance of healthy families has become a deep desire of my heart. I believe God built us that way. It’s no accident that Scripture is filled with family language when describing God’s relationship with His people—the family of God that finds its source in a Father and a Son. One of the most difficult parts of youth ministry was helping a young person understand God’s love and protection when they had never experienced that from their earthly father. I once had a young person tell me, “If God is anything like my dad, I want nothing to do with Him here on earth, and I certainly don’t want to be stuck with Him for eternity.” Heartbreaking. Thankfully, after a long time of walking with that young person and helping them see the example of other good dads, they eventually came to know Jesus. This verse also starts by reminding us what a gift grandchildren are—and I can affirm that they are truly one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. Today, if you are a dad, reflect the Heavenly One and if you are not still reflect Him to a watching world. #BeTheEdge
