“I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.”

Ever felt that way? I know I sure have—especially right after I’ve done something particularly stupid… for the hundredth time in a row. There are so many lessons I should’ve learned by this stage and age of life. I often find myself shaking my head, saying, “Why didn’t I know better than that?” I can actually quote the Scriptures and share the biblical principles that should’ve led me away from some of the really dumb decisions I’ve made. Maybe I’m the only one who feels that way—but I doubt it. God offers all the wisdom we need to live wisely. He provides all the incentive we need to walk in that wisdom. There’s really no excuse besides our lack of self-control, or our failure to pray and think through what we do and say before we do and say it. It’s the remnant of our fallen nature. Thanks, Adam and Eve. To his credit, Agur expresses his humility and lack of wisdom in Proverbs. The first step to living wisely is to humbly acknowledge our need for wisdom. Then we can pursue it, knowing that God has promised to give His wisdom to those who ask. The model in this passage is clear: the more we recognize our lack of wisdom, the more we are able to receive the wisdom of God. Tell God you desire His wisdom. #BeTheEdge
