“Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.”
I find it interesting that this verse talks about how the sender of the message, through a faithful person, is the one who is blessed and refreshed. The natural reading would seem to suggest that the hearer is the one blessed and refreshed by this good word. They may be—but they also may not be. As we take God’s truth into the world, we do not always receive the response of someone who is blessed and refreshed. Some are offended, or even angered, by the message we bring. It helps to know that God is always blessed when His truth is faithfully shared. The key is that this is only the case if it is truly He who sent us, and it is clearly His message. As a God of both love and truth, we can test any message: if it is grounded in truth and delivered in love, then it is from Him. If not, He is not blessed, the hearer is not enlightened, and we are not acting as His representatives. It becomes a confused and muddled mess. What a beautiful truth to realize—we get to bless and refresh Almighty God. It’s almost unfathomable. Yet, God gives us that opportunity. Today, don’t squander it. #BeTheEdge
