“The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright.”

Depending on which theologian you listen to—if any—Solomon is considered one of the wisest men who ever lived, perhaps the wisest. I don’t know if he was thinking of himself when he wrote this verse, but it certainly reflects him. He is traditionally credited with writing three books in the Bible: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Some Eastern religious traditions and the Catholic Church credit him with two more. Whatever you lean toward, there is no doubt that he has challenged us with great wisdom. One reason I begin every day with a chapter from the book of Proverbs—and have done this brief devotion for the past decade—is because of a desire to stay immersed in wise counsel at every opportunity. I try to live in the presence of wise people. My closest friends have buried their hearts and minds in their relationship with God. They operate by a biblical worldview. My children and grandchildren are great sources of God’s wisdom, even when they don’t realize it. A parent or grandparent who misses the wisdom God shares through family misses a great source of His truth. We choose who we listen to and watch daily. Fools scream loudly for our attention and access to our hearts and minds. They offer foolishness and poison. Today, choose wisdom. #BeTheEdge
