“Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.”

Do good things happen to the righteous? Sure. Do bad things? Of course. One of the greatest fallacies of poor Bible teaching is the idea that when you follow God, only good things will happen in your life. That is a dangerous lie that has left many broken and bitter former followers in the dust. Does that make Solomon wrong? No. First, Solomon often speaks in broad truths, not specifically to every person in every circumstance. But more clearly, this verse tells us that as followers of Christ, all the fruits of the Spirit, the riches of the Kingdom, and eternal life are the inheritance of the believer. Additionally, the blessing of answered prayer and the fulfillment of God’s promises in the life of the believer are expressions of this truth. Conversely, there is no doubt that bad things await the wicked, and eternal violence will be their final outcome. As is often the case in Solomon’s writings, there is a choice to make—with a stark difference in the end results. Today, choose righteousness. #BeTheEdge
