“The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.”

I’m in Sarasota, Florida. We are working with some business leaders to start The Edge ministry in this area. It is one of my favorite places. One of the things I like the most is the Florida sunshine, especially in the spring months. There is a reason their slogan is “The Sunshine State.” In the deepest part of winter, many people in the northern part of our country find themselves glancing at the cost of airline tickets and hotels in Florida. Nothing brings out the attractiveness of the sunshine and its warmth like cold, damp, cloudy skies. Similarly nothing attracts those living in darkness and sadness like those walking in the light and allowing that light to shine in their lives and interactions. God has given us in His creation a very clear example of the light and its power over darkness. Darkness cannot dispel light, but very little light can overwhelm much darkness. In the same way, the bright sunshine of Florida’s Gulf Coast attracts me, the bright lives of God’s intimate followers attract a lost, broken, and hurting world. In this verse, Solomon reminds us that not only is the darkness in the lives of the lost oppressive, but if left unresolved, it results in eternal death. The darkness is reflective of the death state in the soul of the lost. When God’s Spirit enters a life, He breathes life into that dead spirit and places bright light at its center. Today, be the light you were created to be. #BeTheEdge
