“Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.”

I find it interesting that the comparison in this verse is between ill gotten treasure and righteousness. It is not a comparison between those who gain wealth without integrity and those who gain it with integrity. The King James Version compares wealth gained through wickedness and righteousness that gives life or delivers from death. This verse is obviously about much more than just money and possessions. Here we see the contrast between what the wicked or lost chase, money and possessions, and what the righteous pursue which is the source of eternal life, God. Big difference between what these two types of people spend their lives focused on. The pursuit of wealth primarily is like the dog chasing the car. It’s ends with an empty, “now what?” conclusion when those goals are achieved. Chasing wealth calls on the pursuers to disregard everything else as unimportant or less important by comparison. Pursuing God and right living brings meaning and a proper alignment of values to everything else. Today pursue God first. #BeTheEdge
