“Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!”

Any doubt that this mom meant business? She certainly wants her son to pay attention to what is about to be shared. Loose women and behaviors that destroy kings, a long list by the way, are the cautions she wants her boy to grasp. Every good mom wants this for her sons. She is considering how to give this counsel so that her son doesn’t miss it. That is always the parenting challenge. Often as a parent we worry that our child will not heed or hear with sufficient seriousness the important insights about the dangers of this world. After decades working with parents and teenagers I’m still amazed by how many made life altering poor decisions and reflected back wishing they had listened to their parents counsel. Many of those poor choices involved drugs, alcohol, friendships and sexual behavior. Jesus made the point that even an evil parent won’t intentionally hurt their child. Obviously there are exceptions to that but the point was family tends to protect their own. God wants us to see His instruction and guidance from the same place. He does this as an eternal Father looking out for His prized child. A child that He paid the ultimate price for the ability to instruct and guide to joy, peace and happiness. Today listen. #BeTheEdge
