“The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.”

Can I swap my gray headed splendor for some young man strength? Just a thought. Solomon knows that young people tend to feel healthy and invincible. His reference in this verse is the result of self discipline and exercise. Today one in five, 2 to 19 year olds are medically obese. That was not the case in Solomon’s day. With the health of young men came a responsibility to use that strength to serve the community. Among the 80% of youth today who are not obese we don’t see a lot of community service. However, I’ve noticed a move to more of that in today’s young people. It’s encouraging. Survival generally comes with wisdom. As we age the expectation is that we gain wisdom through experience and careful study and application of God’s truth in our journey. As we witness God at work in our life we grow in confidence and understanding of who He is as well as who we are in Him. Wisdom is the result. What a tragic place to find ourselves if we have the gray hair but no wisdom. There are many who choose to walk this life apart from God and the result for them is a loss of strength and a lack of God’s wisdom. Today live and learn. #BeTheEdge
