“Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.”‬‬

I have 5 men who speak boldly into my life. Most of the time I like it however every so often I’m not thrilled with what I hear. Those times change me and I walk away a little more like Christ. I have friends going through hard things. Divorce, bankruptcy, awful work conditions, death of a loved one to name a few. None of these are fun. A conversation with a mother watching her oldest son go through a divorce highlighted a difficult truth. God is not committed primarily to our happiness. He is certainly in the business of bringing joy and peace into His followers lives. These two fruits of the spirit go way beyond just being happy. God’s primary desire for us is restoration of our broken relationship with Him. But, after that it is to conform us to the image of His Son. If a divorce or bankruptcy helps carve edges off our sin damaged areas He allows them and uses them. That is a very hard truth. If you want to deny or ignore it I don’t blame you. God loves us too much to allow sin to maintain its hold in our lives. Solomon lets us know that we ignore God’s discipline at our own peril. Today receive His discipline in the love He intends and be changed. #BeTheEdge
